Good afternoon, this is Doris Sellers, Principal of AC Reynolds High School.

As we begin a new week, I hope you remembered to ‘Spring’ your clocks forward an hour for Daylight Savings time.  We really are striving to improve our tardies to school in the mornings, so please remind your son or daughter who drives that timeliness to school is important.

As we prepare for our 2018-2019 academic year, Monday and Tuesday evenings are rising Junior and Senior parent nights.  You should have received an appointment time for you to meet with your child’s Rocket Power mentor teacher to discuss your child’s course selections.  The expectation is that every student in our school will have the opportunity to have this registration appointment with parents and teachers.  The Honors and AP contracts are available on the ACRHS website under Academics.  Please read these contracts as they state the expectations in these courses, including that Honors and AP courses may not be dropped once you select them and several have Summer assignments.  Our Master Schedule is planned and our teacher resources are allocated from our registration so you are encouraged to work with your student and teachers to carefully select courses.  Courses may not be changed or dropped if they are what you select during the registration process.   The most successful academic experience for a student is one that involves the partnership of educator, parent, and student.  I look forward to seeing our rising Juniors and Seniors this week and registration appointments for rising 9th and 10th grade will be March 20th and 22nd

Please do listen for a phone message from me tomorrow late afternoon regarding how AC Reynolds High School students will have an opportunity to recognize the National Day of Reflection for the victims of Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida on Wednesday.

Come out and show your Rocket Pride in our home athletic events this week.  Our Tuesday events include a softball game at home versus Pisgah and baseball home hosting North Henderson High School.  Wednesday, Tennis and Softball, Varsity only, will host Asheville High School while we host the Rocket Invitational Track event.  Spring Sports athletes will have team pictures made on Monday afternoon.  On Saturday, our JROTC will participate in the Mitch Carver meet at Erwin High School.

Make plans now to attend the Spring Musical performance of “Sister Act” on April 26-28.  Tickets will be available online soon.  Watch for details.  And, the DECA club had state recognition with two of our students placing in North Carolina to qualify for national competition in Atlanta, Georgia.

We are approaching the deadline for numerous scholarships for our Seniors and the prestigious QuestBridge opportunity for Juniors.  See the ACR Counseling website for details.

For your future planning, Graduation is scheduled for Saturday, June 16 at 11:00am at the Asheville US Cellular Center.   Our Junior Senior Prom will be on Saturday, May 5 at the Crest.  Out of school guest forms are available on our website and all forms should be submitted by Monday, April 9th for approval.  All forms should be on time, complete, and include a photo ID of guest.

If you are planning on registering for an AB Tech class for Summer 2017 or next school year please fill out the AB Tech Appointment Form and meet with our AB Tech representative prior to your registration night.  This includes students interested in Criminal Justice classes with Mr. Babb, online and face-to-face classes.  The sign up form is located on our school website under “Announcements”.  Our AB Tech representative will be on campus each Tuesday from 8:00-11:00.  If you have questions please see Ms. Smith or Mr. Davis.

As always, thank you for your support of AC Reynolds High School, where we are committed to the success of ALL students.  Have a nice evening.
