Principal Weekly Update
Posted on 01/13/2019

Good Evening, this is Doris Sellers, Principal of AC Reynolds High School.

This week we begin our Fall Semester testing.  Specific End of Course and NC Final Exams will be given Tuesday through Friday of this week.   Our complete exam schedule is posted on our website.  During testing, all students are asked to be at school on time and refrain from scheduling any appointments for early dismissal so that we can provide as least disruptive environment in our building as possible for our end of semester exams.  Any exams missed due to emergency absences will be made up on the student’s next day present or no later than Tuesday, January 22nd.  Thank you very much for your help in encouraging good attendance during our testing window.

During testing, all students will be asked to leave their cell phones, this includes watches that are electronic devices, in a secure location in each classroom for the exam periods and will pick them up at the close of the exam period.  All testing will be online; therefore, students are reminded to bring their laptop device, fully charged, to class for testing.   Any Senior with senior leave is reminded to check their daily schedule to know when to be in attendance for a review or exam.   Thank you for your efforts to make our academic testing successful.

We are still in an urgent need of exam proctors, so if you are available please call 828 298-7665, sign up with the link on our ACRHS website, or email kasey.king@bcsemail.org to be placed on the proctor schedule.

We have had students working on our annual Home Builders Association playhouse from various classes in the Career and Technical department.  Tickets are $5 and include one admission into the Build & Remodel Expo held at the WNC Ag Center February 2nd & 3rd. Our CTE program will receive $2 from each raffle ticket sold.  Tickets are available from any CTE teacher or in our front office.

January is a very busy month for scholarship application submissions.  Please see the scholarship website as a link on our school website for scholarship opportunities and deadlines.

Most home events will not be held this week because of our exam week.  Thursday evening, many of our band students will be auditioning for All District Band.  Friday night, our basketball teams will host Erwin High School and on Saturday our swim team will be at the Waynesville Recreation Center and wrestling will be at TC Roberson.

I would like to give you a few calendar reminders.  At the BCS Board of Education meeting, January 22, June 10 and 11 were announced as inclement weather make up days in our school calendar.  Friday, January 18 is a 1:00pm Early Dismissal so that teachers can transition between first and second semesters.  Monday, January 21 school will be closed for Martin Luther King Day.  Your child’s second semester schedule will be distributed during Rocket Power on Tuesday, January 22, the first day of the second semester.  This schedule is also available at present on Parent Portal.

Report cards from first semester will be distributed through Rocket Power on Monday, January 29.  Mid Year Graduation will be held Saturday, February 2 at 11:00am at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium.

Other important dates to remember include the PROM, which will be Saturday, May 4 at the Venue, Downtown.  Graduation will be Saturday, June 15 at 11:00am at the US Cellular Center.

Thank you for your continued support of AC Reynolds High School, where we are committed to the success of all students.  Have a nice evening.
