Principal Weekly Update
Posted on 09/23/2016

Good afternoon, this is Doris Sellers, Principal of AC Reynolds High School.

We are quickly approaching the ending of another school year.  We will begin our Spring Semester Final Exams on Thursday.  Please review the exam schedule and know when your test is being given, especially seniors with senior leave in their schedule.

In providing the most positive and effective testing and learning environment in our school, parents are asked to avoid scheduling any appointments for students on exam days, including the afternoon extended review sessions.  Students are asked to arrive on time for school and sign outs will only be allowed in emergency situations.  This includes classes that may not be taking an exam on a particular day of these four days as we are striving to maintain a testing environment throughout our building during all exam days.  I truly only ask for these “no signout days” during our 4 days of testing.

If you have signed up to proctor during our exams, we are counting on you.  We are still in a desperate need of proctors.  If you can proctor, please sign up on the link on our website or call 828 298-7665 to sign up to proctor.  We can’t tell you enough how much we appreciate the support our community gives during these days of testing.

On the afternoon of Tuesday, June 12 following the last exam, students’ digital 1:1 laptop device will be collected.  To avoid any charge to be incurred, please make sure the laptop is in good condition and the appropriate charger is returned with the laptop device.

Per Buncombe County Board of Education Attendance Policy, any student with more than 5 absences in any course will not receive credit in that course.   We have extended make up sessions Monday through Thursday of this week; all attendance make up must be completed and paid for by Thursday afternoon. Any senior over in attendance who has not made their time up will not be able to participate in the graduation ceremony.   Make sure you are meeting academic and attendance requirements.  Our last day of school is Wednesday, June 13th .

Students can still can receive credit in courses they have academically passed but have more than 5 absences in the course.  Attendance Summer School will be held Monday through Thursday, June 18 -21 and June 25-28.   More detailed information is available in the main office and on the school website.

During our final weeks of school, no charging will be allowed in the cafeteria.  You may go online to the Buncombe County Schools homepage to pay on your son or daughter’s lunch account or send cash or check by your child.   If help in this area is needed, please call the school counseling office to speak with our social worker where a plan may be set up so that your child can still enjoy lunch each day at school.

The AC Reynolds volleyball program is hosting a car wash on Saturday at the Kounty Line.  Please see any player or coach to pre-purchase a $5 wash ticket or visit them on Saturday starting at 8:00am.

The Class of 2018 will graduate on Saturday, June 16th at 11:00am at the US Cellular Center. Each senior will receive 8 free tickets and any additional tickets they purchased this past week.  Tickets will be given to Seniors at the mandatory graduation practice on Friday, June 15th at 7:45am in the US Cellular Center.  Senior clearance sheets must be completed and submitted with all outstanding fines paid to receive their tickets and participate in the Graduation Ceremony.

Buncombe County Schools, in conjunction with the US Cellular Center, is increasing security at the commencement ceremonies this year.  Each senior will receive a detailed description of all changes on Monday during Rocket Power. Some of these include designated drop off and pick up locations on graduation day, at the door bag checks, and prohibited items.  Since graduation is a ticketed event, a ticket will be required for entry for any one above the age of two.  I would like to thank our school system and City of Asheville for planning to provide a safe, positive, and respectful celebration for our graduates.

Buncombe County Schools’ Graduation Initiative will again offer high school courses during our Mini-mester program this summer.  Students may enroll in a new course or may recover a previously failed credit through online course recovery.  Mini-mester will be held Monday through Thursday, June 27th through August 2nd on the campus of Erwin High School.  Students must provide their own transportation.  Please contact your child’s counselor or go online to the Buncombe County Schools’ website for more information.

As always, thank you for your continual support of AC Reynolds High School, where we are committed to the success of all students.  Have a nice evening.
