The Graduation Project
is a school board approved graduation requirement for all students in Buncombe
County. The process begins with a proposal. After approval, the
process continues with a research paper, a community-based project of 10 hours
minimum, a presentation to a panel of community members, and a portfolio
compiling all of the work from the whole process.
The Graduation Project
Committee recognizes that students may want to alleviate the burden of having
to complete the project in a compact amount of time and allows juniors to begin
the proposal and community project hours early on an independent basis.
Juniors may also begin their papers within the research paper component
of English III, leaving only the portfolio and presentation components for the
senior year.
The Early Start packet
is very detailed and self-explanatory. The first step is to access the
packet and read the directions. After students are familiar with the
directions, they may make an appointment with a Graduation Project Committee
member or a Media Coordinator to discuss their ideas for proposals.
