School Counseling Support While We're At Home:

Below is information regarding how to connect with your school counselor while the ACRHS offices are closed. While school counseling is best done in person - we have systems in place to support students, answer questions and hold our meetings while we are on digital days.
As we move towards a virtual format, it’s imperative that students continue checking school email and PowerSchool grades. We will be pushing out school counseling curriculum through email, will be having “open office” hours virtually, and will be holding meetings via chat/phone/video conference with our families if needed.

Please note our virtual hours are: 9-11 and 1-3pm. We will be checking during other hours, but cannot commit to being “live” other than within these times.

First Generation College Tour 3/25/20 CANCELLED

In 2019, with the help and sponsorship of our PTSO, the counseling department was able to take our first college field trip with approximately 40 ACR students who will be first-generation-college-students. This trip targets underclassmen in order to educate them on admissions processes, how to build their resumes in advance of applications and exposing them to college campus culture. Very soon we will be announcing our 2020 trip. If you meet the criteria above, be checking your student and/or parent emails for more information.

Students taking in the sights at the 2019 UNCC College Field Trip! We had a great time, amazing weather, and learned so much about the school and how to apply.  Thanks to our PTSO for sponsoring this event.

Parents, we want to keep you in the loop!  Other senior planning activities from our department include:
  • Classroom guidance: Counselors have been in English classes giving information about the college application process.  Not in English this semester?  Not to worry...we held a separate session for you during RocketPower.  Let us know if you have questions!
  • Individual student planning: All seniors will be invited to meet one on one with their counselors over the course of the semester.  If seniors are called out of class to counseling, or receive a pass to come down, know that it's most likely so we can plan with you.  We know how important this year is and we want to make sure you all are prepared!
  • Self-made appointments: Need help now?  Have specific questions that you need to be answered in person? Please come to counseling and set an appointment with your counselor.  Our secretary, Ms. Lee is happy to put you on our calendars and give you a pass to alert your teachers of the appointment time.

Our department's goal is to provide a comprehensive school counseling program.  We are all masters level trained counselors who keep our licensure and credentials updated to stay on top of the ever-changing needs of our students.  We work together with school staff, families and community resources in order to provide the best possible care to our Rocket family.  Our services include personal, social and academic counseling in order to help our students be successful in high school and beyond.
