Hello My Name Is...

Joan Hoffman
Joan Hoffman

I am a highly qualified teacher, holding a North Carolina teaching license in K-12 Art, Printing Graphics, Digital Media, and Trade & Industrial Education. I began teaching in BCS in 2005 here at Reynolds where I completed my student teaching. I subbed at Reynolds for 3 months before getting a full-time job at the Career Education Center. I have been moonlighting at the Biltmore Estate for 16 years to earn some extra cash.

My academic interests include photography, film making, ceramics, and fine art printmaking. I also enjoy hiking in the Blue Ridge mountains with my husband Jim, our canine cohort Sasha, and my two young children Charlotte and Jamie.  We enjoy camping and just generally being outside. I have a big garden at home and a ceramic kiln that keeps me busy. We took our pop-up camper to the west coast and back (the long way) for a total of 6,284 miles this summer, visiting 3 National Parks, a few great cities, catching up with our friends and relatives.

In the fall I am teaching Drone Technology and Career Management. DT prepares students to sit for the FAA Part 107 Pilot's License. Students will understand the basic rules and regulations of flight, air space and map reading, in addition to safe flying techniques to qualify for an entry level drone pilot position in the United States. Career Management seeks to help students identify personal strengths and interests. We will then apply that knowledge to explore courses available at Reynolds HS and ABtech courses here to prepare for life after high school. We will also identify potential career paths and the training involved, whether it be community college, military service, university, internships, apprenticeships and other direct to work opportunities.
