Welcome to Rocket Math!  My name is David Honea and I am in my eighth year of teaching at AC Reynolds.  This is my 20th year of teaching, and I have previously taught engineering, math, and computer science in Raleigh, Boone, England, and Wilkesboro.  This year I will be teaching AP Calculus, AP Computer Science A (Java), and Math 4.

I went to North Carolina State University, where I earned bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering, and did research on computer vision.  I also earned a master's degree in exercise science from Appalachian State.  Even though none of my degrees are in mathematics, I found that using math to work with numbers and data was a critical part in all of my work, whether it involved computers or human physiology.
I ran cross country and track at NC State, and have continued to run since then.  I have completed seven marathons and one ultra-marathon, and I hope to do another marathon this year.  Most of my running interest now is focused on coaching - I am the cross country coach at Reynolds and will also coach boys and girls track.  Come join us - no matter where you are starting from, we can all get faster!
I grew up in Candler and graduated from Enka, and I am glad to be back in the Asheville area with my family. My wife works for Legal Aid of NC, and we have two sons. One recently graduated from A.C. Reynolds and the other currently goes to school here. We live really close by, so you may see me walking to and from school some days.
