American I course overview
American History 1 is a survey course designed to introduce you to major themes, people, and events in US history from the pre-colonial era through Reconstruction. The knowledge and skills learned in this class should allow you to understand the context for events in our nation today and help you to be a successful student and citizen in our modern republic.
The semester will proceed as follows:


Unit 1: Exploration and Colonial America (10-15 days)

Unit 2: American Revolution and New Republic (12-15 days)

Unit 3: The New Nation (8-10 days)

Unit 4: Expansion and Reform (12-15 days)

Unit 5: Sectionalism and Nationalism (8-10 days)

Unit 6: The Civil War (8-10 days)

Unit 7: Reconstruction and course review (8-10 days)
