Welcome to the 1st Annual Cedar Cliff Classic!

Thank you for your interest in the 4th annual Cedar Cliffs Classic Tournament of Bands. We are looking forward to hosting your band in our contest line-up. Please use the following information as a guide and ask any questions you may have.

Registration and Scheduling

Registration is now open for the Cedar Cliffs Classic Tournament of Bands, which will be held on October 5, 2019. The registration fee is $75 and should be sent in once the online registration is complete. Please make checks payable to “ACRHS Band Parents Association.” Performance order will be based on the electronic receipt of the online registration.

Location and Stadium

A.C. Reynolds High School and R.L. Dalton Stadium are located in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina approximately one mile off Interstate 40 in Asheville. Our high school campus is one of the most beautiful in North Carolina. The stadium seats approximately 3,000 spectators on the performance (home) side, with additional metal seating for bands if needed on the visitor side. The press box is approximately four stories above field level, giving it a great vantage point for judges.

Classification

Classification is based on the number of wind players in each band. Classes may be adjusted for equal class sizes. Class sizes are as follows:

Class A: Up to 25 wind players

Class AA: 26-45 wind players

Class AAA: 46-65 wind players

Class AAAA: 66-85 wind players

Class AAAAA: Over 85 wind players

Judging and Scoring

Our contest will use Olympic Style judging, with five band judges (drop the lowest and highest scores, average the middle three scores) and judges for the captions of Percussion, Color Guard, and Drum Major. The Band Score, which will be used to determine the overall score, will be the average of the middle three scores from the band judges.

Band Score Break Down:

40% Music

30% Marching and Maneuvering

30% General Effect

In the event of a tie, the music score will be the tie breaker. If the Music score is tied, ties will be broken using the Marching and Maneuvering score. If that is tied as well, the tie will be broken using the General Effect score.

Captions will be judged for Percussion, Color Guard, and Drum Major. In the event of ties for caption scores, ties will not be broken; tied bands will receive the same award.

Awards

The awards ceremony will follow the last group’s performance. Each band will receive a participation award. In addition, the following awards will be given for each class (top three): Music, Percussion, Color Guard, Drum Major, and Overall Class Placement.

The band demonstrating the best attitude, enthusiasm, and spirit will receive the Rocket Award. There will be two Sweepstakes Awards: one for the highest overall band score for class 1A-2A bands, as well as one for class 3A-5A bands. The Band of the Day Trophy will go to the band with the highest overall band score of the day.
