A Buncombe County Schools student has been chosen to receive a highly-competitive scholarship from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Bella Antunes of A.C. Reynolds High School is one of just 300 students in the nation selected for this year’s Gates Scholarship, which covers the full cost of college. Candidates must have an outstanding academic record, along with leadership abilities demonstrated through school and community activities. Bella’s activities during her years at Reynolds have included cheerleading, mock trial, debate, and theater. She also had an internship with Gov. Roy Cooper’s office.
“We are so proud of Bella for earning this ultra competitive scholarship,” said Ben Alexander, principal of A.C. Reynolds High School. “She has challenged herself in her coursework and extracurricular activities. We’re excited for her to build on her knowledge and skills as she starts the next chapter of her journey.”
Bella will be attending UNC-Chapel Hill this fall.
